Getting the grind right is the single biggest thing you can do for a good cup. If your coffee tastes weak, muddy or grits through your filter, the grind — not the coffee — is usually the culprit.
Match the grind to your brewer
- Whole Bean — you grind fresh at home. Best flavour if you have a grinder.
- Filter — pour-over (V60), drip machines. Medium grind.
- Espresso — espresso machines and moka pots. Fine grind.
- Cafetiere / French Press — coarse grind. A fine grind here will slip through the mesh and taste muddy.
- Aeropress — medium-fine.
I ordered the wrong grind
It happens. The most common mix-up is ordering Espresso grind for a cafetiere — the fine grounds pass through the mesh and the cup tastes silty and over-extracted. If your grind doesn’t match your brewer, contact us: for a recent order we’ll send a replacement bag in the correct grind at no charge. Choose Whole Bean if you’re unsure and own a grinder.
